AIFA Mexico, also known as the Felipe Ángeles International Airport, is a new airport currently under construction in the municipality of Zumpango, State of Mexico, near Mexico City. It is named after Felipe Ángeles, a Mexican revolutionary general.
The airport is being built to alleviate congestion at the existing Mexico City International Airport, which is currently operating beyond its capacity. AIFA Mexico is expected to have the capacity to handle up to 20 million passengers per year.
Construction of the airport began in 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2022. The project has faced some opposition from local communities and environmental groups due to concerns about its impact on the surrounding area.
Once completed, AIFA Mexico is expected to become an important hub for domestic and international flights, serving as a gateway to Mexico City and the surrounding region.
